As a Jr Hunt went 4:07.9/9:02.6 - Mile/2M & 14:19 5000m.. Sr-The Versatile Hunt did 4:06.6/8:45.2, M/2M(indoors-4:02.7/8:52.4)and a 2:24.06 marathon in Dec. |

As a Sophomore, Curtis Beck (Santa Monica) showed promise. He won some x-country races. In track, Beck ran 4:21.2/9:18.2 for Mile/2Mile. Beck emerged as the top 2 miler that season for Santa Monica High (1971). |
Kevin Byrne (Paramus Catholic, NJ) Class of 77. Tore up the indoors in 77, leading the Mile/2M. In Dec. Byrne raced a 4:09.8 relay leg (L), then on successive Friday nites(Jan 21 & 28) in Philadelpha & NY(R), Byrne demolished invitational HS Mile fields by ripping 4:08.0 TWICE!! Moving behind only the last three record-setters: Hunt, Cartier & Ryun (In 77). |

As a junior, Rich Kimball (De La Salle, CA) led all juniors nationally in 3 events. Rich would post 9:01.4/14:09.8/29:57.0 (2M/3M/6M) efforts to be the top distance returnee. The 6M would be a (then) Junior class record. Kimball also fit in a 4:12 mile, all in 1973. |
4/22/72 - Arcadia Invite. Barrie Williams (Wales, England, North Torrance High), a British citizen, wins the mile over Curtis Beck (Santa Monica), both 16yr-old juniors. Williams' 4:06.7 in topping Beck (4:07.0) broke Jim Ryun's world age-16 record and gave Beck his only loss during the 72 track season. *Ryun's record was 4:07.8 set 6/8/63. |

Robbie Perkins (Collegiate, VA) Class of 73, ran a series of fine duels with Terry Williams and never lost by more than a couple of strides.
