Tom Graves breaks the tape in 9:06.91 to win the 2-mile for the 3rd time @ the IL State Meet. Graves capped his HS career with a mile-two mile double. Graves conserved his strength in the heat(90°), taking the lead in the final 600yards, in the 2M. The mile: Graves won a thriller, gaining the lead in final 110 yards to win in 4:09.37! |

Tom Graves went to Auburn. At the NCAA cross country (78) championships, he was the top freshman.(13th) beating Spivey (15th) by 5 seconds. Rudy Chapa was 14th. Al Salazar won. |
Mitch Kingery (San Carlos, CA) is soaking after a run in the rain. He nears the finish of his then prep record marathon of 2:23:47 (5:29 pace), as a Sophomore! Don Clary (East, Anchorage, 75) Alaska's premier prep distance runner. Don won 3 state titles on the same day!!! First the mile: 4:14.9, NEXT the two mile: 9:04.4 and on the mile relay, helping East to capture their first state championship and earned a scholarship to the U of O. Clary is an "84" Olympian at 5,000 m.

The 18-year-old frosh from Anchorage went from last to first by charging from 500 yards out to clock a PB 13:45.2 to Ngeno's 13:49.2. Lost in Clary's great moment was a 13:51.4 by Terry Williams for 3rd. Oregon won the Duel meet. |
